I am in the middle of changing out my spark plugs which has me intimately familiar with my airbox setup now.
Question one is that I saw an airbox on Fleabay a couple weeks ago that looked exactly like a stocker except it was carbon fiber? It was sick but it went for 500 US dollars. I've never seen one before and was wondering if it is from an R or it's some aftermarket thing.
Second question is that when you remove the actual airbox, there's an oddly configured piece jammed in there thats primary function is obviously to be ram air snorkels but what is with the large center piece that protrudes down and causes poor fitment. I think I could fabricate better snorkels leaving out that center piece but don't know it's function. :dunno

Not well enough explained bud, give us pics if you can or a better explanation

It sounds like the restricting 'top hat'. If it is, bin it! The piccies will clarify.

Ehmmmmm center snorkels :confused.. must see a pic of them :roll

were all standing by......with baited breath!! tee hee!!

Indeed fusebox :confused maybe i missed something out when i modded mine :confused maybe the snorkels are an important feature :confused:laugh:laugh

Airbox pix

Pic one illustrates my complete airbox assembly. You can see the lid has long since been binned and I have fitted an Evoluzione kit.
What I am referring to as snorkels are the left and right tubes that run from the holes on the frame to the bottom of the main airbox. The large center part protruding down in between them is the part that I am questioning as it seems unneccessary and certainly doesn't help the fitment within the close confines.
Pic two shows the holes in the frame I'm talking about.
Pic three shows the lower airbox section fitted.
Pic three shows the whole assembly fitted.

What's up you guys? There were a tons of comments about this when I first put it up and now that I have the pics up that were requested, no one has replied with an answers. :dunno

Give the boys a chance mate, they might not have been online yet or may be trying to find out the info you need :thumbup Personally I haven't a clue :dunno

Nothing unusual there, it's as should be, only thing i would do if not done already is fit a pre 2000 air boot:thumbup

Sorry dude i cant log on here every day as i gotta whole load of stuff goin on at work plus the misses givin me **** about being on a computer all the time....yadaa yadaa ya!
So the long block that you refer is a baffle for the air intake into the air box not essential for the bike performance but if you are going to retain the air box or part of the air box then this will give the throttle bodies a body of still pressurised air to draw from, as you quite rightly state a crude form of ram air system. either keep them in place or ditch the whole air box and fit an evo or renegade air filter kit!
hope this sheds some light on your situation?

02Aprilia,

Firstly weird name however. Take a little advice from an old Aprilia hand. These are the mods that are a must have on any aprilia up to 03.

1. Renegade Airbox Mod (Basically remove the entire unit, fit a carbon plate to keep stones out and then a huge oil filled air filter) This is easily the best mod you can do, and results in superb pulling power through the range, smoother acceleration from low revs and the most awesome induction roar you ever herd. You only think your Mille is loud until you do this mod.

2. Fit a 15tooth front sprocket with your 42tooth rear and watch that front wheel pop up. Great fun.

3. Have your rear brake drilled out to 4mm for a good firm rear brake.

4. Fit the new Bridgestone 016 tyres for good heat and superb grip.

After that its mostly cosmetic.

Enjoy.

My name isn't weird, just uncreative. I ride an 02 Aprilia.
1 So is this Renegade system a significant upgrade from the Evoluzione kit that I already fitted which removes the lid and seals the base to the underside of the tank?
2 As I am due for a chain and rear sprocket, my intention was to retain the 16 tooth front and increase the rear 2 teeth. My understanding is the larger rear would provide more chain longevity over the smaller front with the same performance effect.
3 My rear is useless so I would like to try what you're suggesting.
4 I just fitted Metzler M4s front and rear. I ride like too much of a puss to know the differance. I have only been riding the Aprilia for a couple years. Prior to that I was riding a "fightered" Vmax for a decade. They are very rare here. Everyone thought I was crazy. :thumbup

1-renegade or evo? most prefer the renegade, I like my evo(evo gives more top end, rene better though the rev range?) So I would save my money and keep the evo.
2-IMO best gearing for road is 16/44(pre 04 RSV)with 110 linkchain. |Good enough for 166 mph.
3-Cant be arsed fixing my rear brake, I just bleed it reg(then never use it)
4-any tyre as long as its (very)sticky. M3,s corsa 111's, etc etc
cheers Ck

1. I personally prefered the Renegade Kit. but the EVO is also excellent and nothing more needs to be done.

2. At the time it was decided by myself and a lot of other fellow Mille riders that the 15 + 42 was a batter ratio. That said, I might just change to 16 + 44 to see what that is like.

3. The 4mm mod is a must, allows you to trail the back in corners with little effort.

4. Its Bridgstone 016 all the way for me from now on. Try them and then tell me different.
