Just joined this site on a recomendation from a chap in wales who i bought my can off (nice 1 keith) Trouble is, due to weather i havent got my bike yet!!!
I traded in my 2003 gixa thou for my 2003 tuono fighter and know very little about them. Keith has told me some stuff to lookout for and what to check etc, so ime looking forward to picking some brains and getting to know this mad monster of a bike.:crazy
Any 1 with start me off sugestions get in touch.
Cheers for now
Stuey.......

Welcome bud. The T is a great bike and will be totally different from the Gixxer.
There's 1 or 2 who have brains on here to pick - not me tho'
Enjoy the bike when you get it and this bloody awful snow goes

First things first mate, get the bike, ride it and see what's what. Once you've tried it and made a few assesments on it then some questions can be answered etc.

You ridden Twins before ?

Hold on tight :eek:yes but relaxed if yer know what I mean :roost:yes

bocht the can ofore the bike,,,,is that no like pittin yer breeks on afore yer boxers lol,,,,,,, aye ye'll love it manni, better than ye gixer

Welcome

Welcome to the mad house Stuey, best bike you'll ever own, might be a while before you can ride it safely mind :cheers

Thanks for the reception guys!! I am gunna go for it t,day! Bikes ready to pick up so i"ll chuck me ole faithfull in the back of the van and go and do the deal.
I am well into my fighters and have a old 650zthat looks the part,so the tuono ticks all my boxes. I was after a xjr1300 or a gsx1400 for more 2 up work until i was offered the tuono for the same deal. The mrs was gettin battered on the gix and she couldnt ride it, so that was a mjor reason for the change. I want to do some fighter shows with both this year, would the tuono be mrs friendly ? she"s a bit of a plodder !! but i want her riding bikes again. The old kwak is a bit heavey for her and tuono is really light.

The only twin i rode was a vfr 750, but it was knackered, so i would say no i havent? A mate a work said that the v power is addictable ?
I have been around bikes f 30 years or so from x7s, elsies, gpz 11s, gsx 11s , old skool point and grunt stuff.
Always up for new experiencies so here we go!!!!

Stuey.
A VFR750 is a Vee Four. :)

If your missus is a steady rider, she'll be OK on the Tuono. The bite from a Tuoldo is the way the power comes in at 6k. At 5k the power levels off and most riders open the throttle more to compensate, then the engine hits 6k and the power rises quickly - and you've got more gas on. Very easy to do an accidental wheelie is low gears if you aren't aware of it.

you get used to it very quickly.

My wife went from a Hornet to a Tuono & loves it, I doubt she ever rev's it past 6k. Which is a shame because her bike actually goes like stink if you give it some welly.

The list of modifications you can make to these bikes is huge, it depends upon what you want to achieve, and how much you want to spend.

Thats put my mind at rest, she was gettin a bit twitchy on hearing how brutal these can be.
Still havent been able to pick it up yet which is a bit of a pissa!!
Dealers told me its been serviced and valves and shims have been done(any way of checking that??) and they found the choke cable fraid so they are waiting for a replacement which will be thursday ish.
I have been told that the valves should be checked every 9000 miles, oil done every 4,500. Also hang a can of paint off the rear brake peddle when parked up????
What tyres are good for these? I have always used pirrelli diablo"s on the gixa.

1. Sidestands are crap. Some people fit Blades/others sidestands.

2. Whatever you like really. Diablos will be fine mate totally.

Stops the bike rolling forward with the crappy sidestand ?

Might give you some back brake? If you want to stop it rolling forward put it in gear and move it back or forward to suit the gradient.

What litre tin of paint did they reckomend and any particular colour ?

Nice 1 cyril!! Keitho told me that the rear brake is renowned for allowing air into the system:dunno
So he recomended hanging a tin of paint on the lever to keep the preasure on if left for any length of time?
The colour is down to personal preferance:lol A nice terracotter would go in my shed:thumbup

Came across an uprated E.C.U. the other day, 40 quid. Do these just plug in or do you have to go down the remapping route?
Had alot done to the gixa and it became a pain in the arse, espeacially when changing cans etc.
What differance does it make (if any) to the overall performance??
Or is there any point??:dunno

If you want to play with the ECU chip, get over to AF1 and look up Gabro. He programs chips and has a very good reputation.

If you want to sweeten the engine the Akra 2+2 exhaust will smooth out that hole in the power curve.
A renegade or Evoluzione airbox will let it breath better

The Akra's can be bought for about £400 on Ebay - but remember the GenII ones don't fit.
The Airboxes £75-100 depending on type etc.
You can add PCIII's and custom maps - how much do you want to spend?

I would suggest you ride it a bit first and decide what you want from it.

Sidestand - I've never had a problem and I have just bought the 3rd Tuono.

Tyres - I tried Diablo's, didn't get on with them. I like the Michelin 2CT's but it's such a personal thing. New bike has Pirelli's fitted so it remains to be seen how they are.

The biggest tip is to keep the bike hooked up to an optimate type battery tender at all times. The battery has to be really topped up to fire up these V Twins, especially if they have been stood for any length of time. There are threads about brown connectors, Yamaha starter realys, checking earth contacts and battery types, but TBH I never had any bother with my Tuoldo in the 5 years I had it as long as I remembered to keep it charged. FYI the dash uses power 24/7 so it drains the battery.
