currrently moving from exeter back to loughborough
hello all! :thumbup well i think im finally about to take the plunge and come away from the 1000cc jap 4,s ive been riding for the last 7 odd yr. i currently ride a zx10 and although its one fast beeatch im bored!!!
fancied a tuono for ages so im looking to chop my zx in and get me one.
need some advice though please, whats the best to get? is the factory worth the extra? best mods? etc anything really which will point me in the right direction for the best bike for me. im looking at anything 07 plate onward.
went to look at a 07 plate daytona 300 special today which was nice only 4k on the clock and very clean and original.they say that they would chuck in the akra exhausts for about £500 as a sweetner how much extra do they give it?
i heard they give about 130bhp ? is this right?

anyways enough questions, any advice would be good advice folks as a twin naked is alien terrirtory for me at the mo.

cheers!
jonah!

We met once mate. I was on a new orange speed triple then. Showed you the way to the M6 . . Hope you're well?

i remeber it well! i still got that zx10 "just" hows things fella?

Not bad mate thanks. In answer to your Tuono Q's. Factory is definately worth the extra. Ohlins all round, forged wheels, carbon belly pan, master cyclinder protectors, wind deflectors, side panels, hugger, front fender etc. Plus a bit of exclusivity, if you can live with the gold frame.

Most common mods are Akra's or similar with ECU on Map 2. Most people go to a 15t sprocket on the front also (usually supplied with bike). I love my 2009 Factory, but ride one if you can before buying. You're a tall fella and it might be a shock coming from a ZX10. Not too much though.

Common problems include misting clocks on some models, rear lights get some condensation sometimes, indicators at back have no seals so fill up if washed/rained on, side stands are **** (but can be swapped for 06/07 fireblades), but nothing major and all rectified easily enough. The price of owning something Italian with character!

cheers, ive got a budget of about £6500 so im kinda hoping that i can pick up something decent for that.
no major rush as im no winter rider! but id like to get something before the spring, as for my height well i dont do track days anymore and i only really ride the zx around the local ish country rds round loughborough so 160bhp+ and 180mph+ is never really needed, plus ive kinda had it wit the head down arse up stance! i just wanna bike that gives me the same kinda acceleration and grunt without having to be rossi to make the most of it.

In that case a Tuono will be just the Ticket. I'm sure a few fella's on here will have other things to say about them. £6.5k will get you something mint too.

PM'ed you.

As above, and maybe a brown connector problem. Don't rekon you'd be disapointed with a T, and Trevallion just gave you the most honest appraisal I've seen on this forum.:thumbup

Welcome Jonha, you will also love the banter on this site hope you aint easily offended!

I am 6"2 and fit the T without any problems, what height are you?

Like the Aldo said Trevallion has given a very good honest opinion. Must also add that they are brilliant bikes. For your money you could probably pick up a brand new tuono R version, but probably best stick to your plan of finding a decent Factory. There have been a few steals lately with some 08 plate Factories going for around the 6.5K mark.

Hope you find one and join the club.

:cheers

im 6ft 1" mate and 15st of pure............... "cough" fat ! i dont really think there will be a problem with the height issue ive sat on a few and quite like the seating position and i expect there will be a double bubble which will help aswell.
so are these akra,s worth fitting?? how much more do they give the bike??

Aye you wont have any bother with the size of the bike i am shall we say a little bit bigger :lol and i have no problems.

As for the Akra's i cant comment on these as i have MTC cans fitted and they make one hell of a difference let the bike run much more freely and run nicer, i like most others also have the 15t front sprocket on which makes for easier running around the town at the 20 and 30 speed limits. Make sure if you get the cans fitted that you get her setup on the latest map 2 settings. If buying from a dealer they will do this for you. The original map setting is setup for the restrictions imposed for fueling on the standard cans, map 2 allows for the less restrictive after-market cans. I think Aprillia would fit these as standard all the time but the bloody goons in the EU with there emission levels do not allow, however they get round it by basically giving them for free when you buy new.

I am sure i will quickly be correcting if what i have said is not 100% eh guys??

:thumbup:thumbup

Eh up Jonah - welcome along (as Gregg James says). Read thru the guys responses, spot on, all of them, couldn't agree more - I too am over 6' & no prob with the Tin of Tuna fit. Again, for £6.5k you should be able to pick up a mint, well spec, sorted Factory. As for after market cans - it is actually quite easy to "remove" the restrictions from the std ones - have done mine - got the idea/method from a link on here!!

Jonah, welcome to the site. If it's new you are after try Taz, they are allegedly doing great deals with free akro's
