my gen 2 has done 23k miles ,it has an annual oil and filter change does about 3-4 k a year and I have seldom had to top up .!!!!! in 5 years of ownership .
if this is typical of the breed shouldn't use a lot in short .

Hmmm. Well with all the good weather this weekend I went for a 260 mile blast. The bike is running great.
When I got home I noticed that the oil level had gone down? It needed about 200ml.
I'm using 10W40 semi synthetic. Should I be concerned? Is there a solution?

Heh, personally, I would wait and see if the problem re-presents. I am used to these bikes having little mystery issues every now and again though, and may be complacent...

Searching the web. As you do. Aprilia RSV milli forum! Aprilia recommend 15W50. From the comments 10W40 is too thin and burns off too easily.

yep stick with 15/50 and check oil level when the bike is at the same temp every time , cold is easier .

Thanks Guys. Yes 15W50 for me. [3.9 litres] Now I have researched this and other forums on oil filters and the consensus is original "short" oil filter is good and the long replacement NOT so good.
Where do you guys buy yours/ make/ how much etc. Will I need 2 x new copper crush washers for the 2 x oil drain plugs?

I use , rock oil sigma guardian 15/50 from jjc race and rally £26.00 ish delivered and I have the long filter type and use hiflo filter ,
and never changed the crush washers but I always check the state of them and always always use the correct torque settings .
ps. double check for weepage when warm before putting covers back on .

I use Putoline 15/50 semi, I topped mine up last summer before a wk end away and then siphoned it back out, should of run it longer before checking (10mls min) , mine has done 14k ish and is ok , I change it every season , just ordered oil from jjc race and rally and filter from AP ,.
