Just a quickie guys to let you know what happened to me this morning:angry:angry

Got a slow puncture on my front wheel, so decided to take it to Carrick Yamaha, edinburgh (my nearest motorcycle delaer/workshop to my work) to ask them to remove the wheel, replace the valve and check the bead area was seating properly. Left it with them. 2 Hours later, got a call from them to say the wheel was ready and my bill was.......£66:eek::eek:

I asked what the **** for and was told "the mechanic worked on it for an hour, he has done a temp repair as the bead is corroded and needs bead blasted and recoated".......SO YOU'VE DONE **** ALL TO IMPROVE IT THEN AND WANT £66:angry:angry

I will NEVER use this company again and wanted to let you know of the service i received. When I went to collect the wheel the guy behiond the counter said, and I quote!! "OUCH......bet you weren't expecting that this morning, you'll still need to get it properly powder coated to get a permanent fix"!!! Un-*******-believable.

Heres my letter of complaint....fuckers...

Good afternoon,

I am writing this email to express my disgust and anger at the price I have been charged today by one of your authorised dealers, Carrick Motorcycles, Edinburgh, EH6 7ET.

I took my loose front wheel in to their workshop as I had a slow puncture. I asked if they could remove the tyre to replace the valve and check the bead seating the tyre to the rim itself. They took the wheel and advised me they would call when it was ready.

Approximately two hours later I received the call to advise me that my wheel was ready and that my bill was £66.00 as the mechanic “had spent about an hour working on the wheel”. I was, understandably, completely shocked by this price. When I got to the workshop, I was met by a member of staff who brought me my bill and his exact words were “OUCH, bet you weren’t expecting that when you brought the wheel in”!!

Now, my anger stems from the fact that, even after they had the wheel for an hour, they have advised me that what they have done is only a temporary repair as the bead area needs bead blasted and recoated.......essentially they have charged my £66.00 for absolutely nothing as the wheel is in EXACTLY the same condition now as when they took it this morning.

I never once mentioned anything about “working on the wheel for an hour” and certainly would have expected a call from them when they had noticed the bead was corroded and not just went ahead and carried out work that was not authorised (nor did it actually make any difference to the condition of the wheel).

To make matters worse, I called a powder coating company who will take the same wheel, strip it, bead blast and powder coat it for £65.00......LESS THAN THEY CHARGED FOR DOING NOTHING!

I would dearly like a response to this email to explain how they can possibly justify this price and exactly what the mechanic was doing to the wheel for one hour that DIDN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AT ALL TO THE CONDITION IT WAS HANDED OVER IN??????

I have never used this workshop, or any other Yamaha workshop for that matter and after this episode will never use your services again. I feel completely and totally ripped off today and will be taking this further should I not get a satisfactory response from yourselves. In today’s financial climate, I simply cannot afford to spend £66.00 for no reason whatsoever.

Yours,

Andi Galloway.

You have been warned.:angry:angry

Honestly buddy, the more I think about it the angrier I get! I wouldn't accept vouchers as will never set foor in there again. I would accept simply my money back minus the new valve they fitted!!!

Deffo mate, I hear about this sort of stuff all the time, last chain was kwik fit claiming £80 for a repair that was never actually done. As you say times are hard and thats a coupla tanks of fuel...

Yeah waiting for Yamaha UK to reply but will not be leaving this alone. That £66 is a track night, or like you say, a couple of tanks of fuel! Anyone know where to take it further if they dont offer a reasonable answer?? Office of Fair trading or something???

Andi when was fitting Tyres I would have charged you a tenner for a repair plus the valve which is a tenner aprilias are a funny size and cleaned the rim and black liquid rubber sealed the rim so 20 quid is as much as you should pay for a loose rim mate

m8 I feel your pain i took my bike to Jim allen in falkirk (aprilia dealer) because my indicators werent workin the guy said he would do me a favour and take it in there and then i disapeered for an hour and when i came back he told me i would have to book it in next week so they could have a better look at it ,then he hands me a bill for £55 ,so booked it in next week not to happily but the guy assured me he knew wot the problem was ,so next week comes bike goes in,i go to pick it up he tells me its still ****** and i need a new dash ,which he can fit for £400 oh and another bill for £55 ,so i told him couldn't afford the £400 so he tells me he has one in the back fitted for £255. Oh and im £110 down for **** all, how do you like that......BUMPED so i feel your pain m8 take it all the way

Cheers Jase mate, I fully expected (and would happily of paid £20-£30) if they had solved the problem but to give me the wheel back in exactly the same state in went in as and then want £66 is ******* ridiculous. I won't be letting this go.

Bryan bud.......I have heard a few stories about Jim Allens too, wouldn't catch me in there either!!!

The problem is m8 your supposed to trust these so called authorized dealerships ,i hope it all works oot for you , i'll be watching with intrest, good luck.........

Ha......the email was sent before I posted it on here! They added themselves when I pasted it here!

Hi Andi, new to the forum, but been an Aprilia junkie fir almost 10 years. Your plight does not surprise me of Carrick Motors... Ross, (the fat git, who smokes the cigars) the owner, started out in "lock up" behind, Dalkeith Road some 30 years ago.... loads of rumours... drives a Porche.. I dealt with him once back then...and have told everyone who is into bikes to never go near the place....As the say....."people never change". I suppose you've now joined the rest of us! Trading standards would probably be your best route, as he has really only charged you to remove the tyre.!!!
I can recommend Crighton Campbell, Motorcycle Workshop Unit 2, out at East Calder or Stuart Young of YPS in Bonnyrigg, both genuine blokes.

Cheers buddy....yeah once bitten and all that!! I'm still waiting on a reply but not letting this go.....f*ckers.

As for Crighton, i know him well.........had a fair bit of work done by him. I simply don't let anyone touch my bike bad Griff nowadays. Thought that a simple tyre removal would have been easy enough but oh no!!!

Where about are you bud???
