A potential Aprilia owner asks.....

Hello everybody,

I feel a bit of a gatecrasher here as I'm not an Aprilia owner but I am seriously thinking of replacing my Triumph Daytona 955i with an RSV 1000 R and you geezers are in the best position to answer my questions such as:

1. Is the RSV tough enough to handle a 60 mile daily commute? I average around 13000 miles a year.
2. Is the RSV tough enough to handle all year round, all weather riding?
3. How scared should I be when I ask the dealer what the bill is for a service?

My only foray into Italian bike ownership was 2002 when I (stupidly) bought a new Moto Guzzi V11 Le Mans. Even though I had it for two years and managed to clock up 24000 miles, it spent a total of SIX MONTHS at the dealers being "fixed". Ironically, one of the reasons I went for the Guzzi was that I was fed up with constant chain maintenance and the bevel drive on the Guzzi broke up! So much for shaft drive! It was my worst bike purchase ever and I do not want a repeat performance.

And Aprilia own Moto Guzzi!

All the other bikes on my list are Jap fours (ZX10, Blade etc.) and, having had a succession of Jap fours through the eighties and nineties, I am looking for something a little different.

Answers on a postcard please.

1- yes I comute more on mine.
2-yes i ride all year round and have had nop probs-unlike my last kawaka
3- minor 130 major 160 ish, so not bad (find the right dealer tho!)

Howdy S/N i aint got any facts or figures for you but what i can say is that the prilla is a well built, very fun to ride good all round bike a bit thirsty and likes eating back tyres but yeah, damn good machine...:thumbup

Hello buddy,

Bought my 04 rsv in September last year with 3000 miles on clock. It know reads 14000, and thats commuting now and again (140miles round trip), weekend fun, and touring.

Used all through winter with no drama's at all.

Get it serviced at Southern Cross Aprillia in London (Kilburn), just off North Circular. Very competetive, last service included valve check, clutch and brake Mod, Head bearings, and an MOT, and the bill was £415 give or take a few pence! :thumbup

Just ask for Don or Andy, two aussie's and they certainly know there stuff. Hope this has helped you Squashed Nose.

He's a Kiwi not an Aussie but not sure how much offence he takes if you get it wrong. LOL

hey squashed nose, sounds like you're thinking of doing something similar to me. from what i've been told by the guys here it's certainly more than capable of being used as a commuter but with a bit tucked away.

if you read any bike mags, last month's Ride and TWO had features on the RSV-R which has rekindled my interest. going to check one out today.
