Hi all, I'm starting to have a closer look over my RSVR and have a few questions:

The carbon front mudguard and rear hugger have faded so look a bit pale. What's the easiest way to bring them back to their former glory? Can I use a wax or polish, or do they need to be lacquered?

Has anyone got a picture under the bottom yoke looking upwards? I have the grommets on the brake lines but they aren't attached to anything. I think there is a plastic cover missing. Also the top part of the cover between the rads has been trimmed, I think the previous owner must have used a front paddock stand.

Also, does anyone have a picture of the rear underside where the number plate/indicator mount bolts on? I think my undertray has been cut down. Number plate and indies are bolted on to a nasty bit of angle ally at the moment.

Dash is showing 'SERVICE'. Can this be reset?

Bike is a 2000 RSVR

Not sure about your 1st question

Yes there should be a plastic plate under the nose cone and as it covers the bottom of the headstock its the 1st thing that get ditched when using a headstock type paddock stand.

Yes the mounting wings have been cut off the undertray leaving you know where to bolt the number plate/indicators. I think AF1 do a tail tidy for these models but its stupid expensive.

The service indicator can be reset use the following.
Key on
Press Lap and R for 5 seconds

PM Boyler, he's your man on carbon fibre as he makes some wonderful replacement carbon parts for Aprilia's. He may be able to help. I suspect though you will need both parts relacquering to bring them back to their former glory.

You will need to source the plastic cover that's located under the front fairing as it secures the brake lines.

Part number is AP8148551 for 2000 model but i think they are the same for all 98 to 03. They are about £18.50 from Aprilia

As Kiwi suggests, you can buy a little tail tidy that will tidy up you back end. Have a look on the AF1 site. RSVR.net used to sell them but they have stopped trading

Thanks for the useful info guys. Unfortunately, the bike let me down today and wouldn't start. Instead I got about 2 sluggish turns of the engine and a load of clicking and fluttering needles on the clocks :roll I have ordered a new Varta YTZ14S-BS from Ebay and the XTZ solenoid from Wemoto. I'm also planning to do the charging wire mod so hopefully shouldn't happen again as I'm missing it already (had to take the car to work!).

These should solve the problem, i also spray all my electrical connections with ACF50 to keep them good and water repellent as well:thumbup
 
Rich, I'm only a few mins away mate.

I may be meeting up with a mate at Wessons Cafe on Saturday, fancy popping across for a catch up and we can have a gander at your bike? (I'll show you mine if you show me yours LOL!)

I recently bought some carbon that had lost its shine, have a gander at mine and we'll see what we can do with yours. I have some good stuff that brings a shine to most finishes.

Hi, yep I may well be up for that - I'm in Hastings so only about 1/2hr from Wessons. What time are you thinking? (just so I can ok it with the Missus!)

Gonna speak to the other guy tonight on MSN and see what times OK for him, he usually wants to meet up around midday ish. So if we say around 1pm then we won't be far out.

Some good roads around there too, well they make me smile.

Yep, not bad roads from here either :) Should be ok for Saturday.

Another quick one - when I do the wiring mod on the 3 yellow wires, would it be ok to fit a 4 way connector (see below) rather than hard wiring? I already have a load of 6.3mm male and female blades terminals I can use.

Rich, best to completely eradicate any chance of a poor connection and that means getting rid of those interference fit connectors.

Not recommended mate, the wires need soldering.

Will see you on Saturday then at around 1pm ish at Wessons Cafe.

Mate from work isn't coming Rich, he's been off work sick since Wednesday. I'm still heading across to Wessons though, see you there at about 12.30 - 1.00pm ish. :thumbup

Always been a polisher mate, usually after a good ride I can polish at least 2 cans of ice cool beers. (Tinnies for our very southern friends) :thumbup

Cheers - was good to meet you too and thanks for setting my rpm light :thumbup I did have a go at the carbon when I got home with some Autoglym fine cutting polish. They have got a bit of a shine now but the problem is the carbon itself has faded so they are now shiny but still a bit brown! Does look a lot better though. I oiled the joints on the steering damper too and it's a bit freeer now.
 
Youll need to re laquer the carbon to get a shiny finish again.

Boyler will do it for you.
