Hi, i have a 99 mille which i have only owned a short while, today when warming the bike up it suddenly cut out. I went back to the bike and it just turned over and over but will not fire up, it has put up "diag" and underneath that "1" in the right hand display. The left display looks normal. It appears not to be priming the fuel pump as it does not make the usual sound when the ignition is switched on but does make a shorter sound, also the rev counter sweeps up and down as it should. I have connected the diagnostic leads together under the right hand side panel and the display returns to normal but still just turns over and wont fire, i believe these wires should be left disconnected under normal use? Around 2 weeks ago i replaced a faulty starter relay after it failed when i had ran my battery down which is now fully charged and appears to be in good order. I have used the bike since that happened and did around 80 miles yesterday trouble free. The only thing i have checked is the battery and the 2 30amp fuses near the battery. I have read other posts on the forums but havnt come across one quite the same. I would really appreciate your comments or ideas on this as i dont want to start replacing or stripping things that dont need to be disturbed. I have just made the switch to v-twins and am loving this mille in spite of the problems so far.

Thanks - nick

Hi Nick.
Sorry hear you're having problems. Next thing I'd check would be the fuses in the box by the instruments. You might also want to pull the relays (under seat) and just make sure they're not corroded. Swap them around to make sure it's not one of them gone, etc.

There is no Diagnostic code 1 mate, check all your relays, tilt switches are in the correct positions and have clean tight connections.

If the electricals are all OK then start here:

1. Pull the spark plugs out and make sure you have a HT spark at the plugs.
2. If you have HT spark then it will either be a fuelling issue or mechanical failure.
3. No HT then we have to check the LT circuits are all intact.

Check the relays etc.. first then the plugs for sparks and get back to us.

Make sure you use the cold start lever to start the bike at all times cause if you don't it'll flood and you will not be able to start it for love nor money. Plenty of threads on here for starting procedures, looks like you have plenty to do mate.

Speak soon.

The connector is for checking the throttle position sensor is in spec. The connector should be left un-done for normal riding. I would check the battery is charging propperly first. If you`ve replaced the starter, then i would suspect the battery has gone.

:thumbup Hi, Thanks to all for the advice, checked through fuses, relays etc as advised and no problems, although the battery was turning the engine over fast it appears that it was the problem after all, i have read that you really need a top class battery on these and it just goes to show. Thanks again for all your help and now back to enjoying my lovely Mille.:doug
