Cycle World, the August 2009 issue, has a brief description of an axillary fuel tank that is designed for the Ducati Hypermotard.

We are probably a much smaller market with our Tuonos. Still, I'm dropping them a line showing my interest. Sure, it will add some fuel weight when fully loaded, but at least a fill-up is an option. Sometimes quite a number of subscribers logged on the board, so, if you're interested, put in a good word. Thanks! Here is the article:

I ran out of time on the edit attempting to upload a screen capture of the article. See the web address below if I don't get anything posted later.

Anyway, the unit is a polyethylene affair that resides below the stock tank. So, the bike is not altered in appearance. The unit comes with a replacement starter cable, custom air filters, hardware and instructions. Sells for $799 US (566.61 Euro). Here is the web address listed: www.ca-cycleworks.com. Cheers!

I've seen it, quite a nice setup. Only bummer is it eliminates the airbox which gives rise to tuning concerns and likely increases the need to service the filter. May also be problematic when riding in extreamly heavy rain. All things that wouldn't ordinarly bother a HM rider, but might if the HM rider is doing long distance touring - presumeably the main point in having a 6 gal tank:O Even so, I like that they made this tank and it takes the HM off my useless list and onto the perhaps someday list:)

If I had a T I'd be interested in more fuel for that too.

Oh, I belive the HM tank entirely replaces the origional rather than being aux, but I could be wrong about that.

You're totally right! The original (true) exists below the false (feux?) shell that appears to be a tank.

Yep, though the fake cover thing doesn't even cover all of the origional tank - if you look at a pic of a red HM, all the black bits in the area of the tank are the actual tank. The aftermarket big tank retains the stock cover thing from the pics I've seen. I've ridden a few HM's but haven't seen the big tank in person.

Here is a response from a company representative regarding tooling up for the large fuel tank. BikePilot has noted some considerations and maybe someone else might have an idea or heard feedback on this application. Contact the company and put your name on a commitment list if this seems like a decent option for your needs.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for writing and sorry for the delay in response. We have had a lot of requests to make tanks for other bikes and we are willing to look into it. The only thing we need before starting a new project is at least 50 people to step up and commit to buying it by putting their name on a pre-order list. If you want to start a thread on a forum that is usually the best way to see if there is enough interest out there. Hope you can understand that designing and bringing to market a new tank is a big investment.

Thanks,
Candice
