Well, the new site's been up and running for a couple of days now and nobody has posted a thread on gearing, so I thought I'd get in first...

Haven't put it on yet, but I got me a 42 tooth rear sprocket the other day so will I be able to keep the front wheel down? (Front is already down to 15) :D

I changed to a 15 front and did'nt notice too much difference tbh. Adding a 42 rear definitely has made a difference!

It's fantastic, I definitely wouldn't go back. Perfect for the road, can be a bit hairy on the track (steady slap on hard gas but dosn't spin up) but I reckon that's cos I weigh nowt and need more work on set-up

:) Rusty - you just need to develop a pie habit :p

I run 15/42, it's spot on. On the road it smooths out the bike and makes town riding in third possible, on track it will have the front wheel skipping off the tarmac in third as you nail it.

Bloody fantastic. :D

Welcome Antoine.
Any chance yer built a wall near me, or a boozers or a hairdressers or an off licence or a news agents or a ...........................................................................................

Not even sure whats on mine and be fuc*ed if I'm counting the teeth on the back sprocket. Bought mine 2nd hand about 6 months ago. Goes like stink but never felt like the wheel is ever going to come up in 3rd hard on the gas so must be running something similar. Its a Tuono Racing 53 plate with Racing chip in and straight through exhaust but seems tame enough to me.

I have 15/42 on mine , it's just works realy well for this bike , it makes crusing in 6th gear perfict ... Don't need 160mph on street bike
and it does not realy afect fuel consumption as you can get into 6th instead of it being to tall . I've noticed I get beter fuel consumption now
Also The kick ain't that bad !

Best mod I have done

Not sure what teeth are on mine as bought it 2nd hand but when I've pulled a hand full of throttle in 3rd its never felt like its going to lift the front wheel. its a 53 plate Tuon Racing with racing chip in and straight through exhaust so BHP is quite high.

If changing back to the original non racing chip would this increase lower down torque?

Thoughts

Christ - what happens if you nail it in first or second?

Hahaha ;)

If you give any Tuono full throttle in first gear from the get go you will probably flip it, second will loft the front fairly easily.

Don't forget all Tuono pilots have built in traction control - it's called the throttle.

How often do you actually use full throttle at peak power on your bike on public highway?

Not a chance of full throttle in first unless you've got superman reflexes. I nearly looped mine coming off the Corran ferry, did get a round of applause from the people having a pint outside the Ardgour. I guess they thought I meant to do it. Don't think I did the steering head bearings any good with the clatter it came down with.

**** **** **** fuckity ****

I just posted this thread in common mods... Sorry lads. Redundancy must mean it is indeed, common!

just bought a set of renthal sprockets 42/15 and a nice new shiny gold d.i.d chain, gonna fit 'em when i'm bored one winter evening. don't know what make the standard aprilia chain is but its a nasty cheap piece of crap

Jeez, I'm so tempted but I know if I put a new chain on it will be shagged by Xmas. I'll stick with the 15:40 combo till next spring.

I am in need of new chain and sprockets over the winter. My AF-1 tab is going to get a little stoopid! I'm wondering what would happen if I went 15/44 or 14/42... Anyone ever done that?

yo you canadian hunk of manlyness, koko runs 15/44 on his gen 1, must be like a motocrosser, i dont think you could run a 14 tooth front because the chain run would be too tight around the small sprocket,i tried 15/42 on me gen 1, i changed it back to a 16 front, found it too revvy like riding me old hornet, i prefer the gearing a bit taller so you can roll it on and off not be changing up half way round a corner. it did go like buggery **** though, handlebars were waggling in 3rd at 90mph, too much for an old fart like me..

I RILLY want one of those stickers that go on the throttle assembly, labeled "Traction Control".

I may just try a 44 for ***** and giggles Mr Miller. I have no problem with roll-on on the GenII with the 15/42. The local track is a second gear job as it stands. So maybe I'll try second and third, with the 44.
