4 Pad Brake Caliper?

I've got a 2003 model Mille (NOT an R) and am giving it some love over winter.

I popped the pads out yesterday and they are border line for replacement so have decided to get some nice Brembo replacements, but...

..wherever I look the replacement pads are long, with one in each side of the caliper.

The ones which came out were two per side, i.e. 4 pads per caliper.

I am deeply confuzzled.

Are all replacements just one per side or is there something I'm missing?
They calipers are regular non-radial jobbies.

Cheers!

Maybe a simbolic picture.

Check here for the part number you need for Brembo pads.

Or if you would like them from Aprilia check this part number.

If you are from UK send a PM to Griff(fusebox) and he will sort you out.

Lovely, thanks Dolenc.

I'm still confused though- the first link shows long pads (one per side) and the second link shows what appears to be the correct pads, but...

..the description says RSV 04-07 and Mille R 2003.

My Mille is a 2003 bike, but not an R. Did they change the pad spec in 2003 then?

My bad about the second link, this are your pads.

For the first link its only a simbolic picture, you can check on brembos page the right pads for your bike (01-03rsv) and the serial will be the same. All you have to decide is the compound (track, road..)

The 03 R got radial brakes, maybe then the pads changed a bit(I dont know :)), but for you any pads that go on rsv 01-03(03 non r) go on your bike.

Later callipers/bikes have 4 pads.
Same diff between my 99 (1-piece) and my 02R (2-piece).

I was under the impression the later 4 pad bridged caliper and the Radial both use the same piston and pads setup? The only difference being the way the thing was mounted?

Maybe wrong ( the Missus reckon I am quite often) I'm sure Griff will be along with the Gospel shortly.

I think you're right, but you wouldn't believe how hard it is when shopping online!

I've tried EBC, Wemoto, Bike HPS, Demon Tweeks etc and none of them list the pads correctly.

I did indeed call Griff and he confirmed the correct pads.

Only place other than Griff where I found them was gear4bikes, who are VERY keenly priced... £29.95. Cheap as chips.

Earlier model 1998 to 2000 bikes have the single caliper pads, 2001 onwards up to and including 2009 use the same 4 pad set up. They are the same for standard brembo calipers or radial calipers as they both use the same pads

Jon, was that per caliper or for the pair? If pair, that is bloody cheap for Brembos!

4 pads / caliber EBH 322/4 ?
I ordered SMC EBC Gold FA 322/4 HH for mine -02 RSVR non radial brembo caliber.

I just changed my 03 Edwards pads on the front. 8 pads total. The difference is like night and day, much better - what incredible brakes.

I used pads from an Aprilia dealer (Brembo) as I did not want to skimp £££ on brake pads just in case. The pads in before, not sure what they were as I never put them in, but they were terrible, I had to squeeze the brake lever real hard to get anything out of them and they had no feel and were only slightly progessive.
