New to the site. I have not owned an Aprilia before but I am thinking about trading my 2013 Triumph Street Triple for a Tuono. I have found a great deal on a new 2013 model at a dealer a couple hours away from home. Another dealer also has a couple new 2013 models but is asking much more. I have searched the internet but have not been able to confirm if there were two versions of the 2013 Tuono. One with APRC and one without. Can anyone confirm if this is true? If so, is the APRC model worth the extra cost? Also, to verify, no ABS on either model, right? Is there enough difference that I should hold out for the 2014 model?

I was under the impression the 2014 is one model with no variations and the 2013 wasn't but I could be wrong. I got the '14 because I heard there were some niggles worked out and a better mapping for lower rev riding. I don't think you can go wrong either way, but I would go with the 14 for a few dollars more.

I had a 2013 S3 as well and I'm going to tell you there's no comparison. The Triumph will feel like a pig next to the Tuono. Forget about the crazy power and better fueling it is just overall a way more fun and capable ride, that handles like a dream. I don't miss the S3 at all with the exception of its looks. I like the roughness of it.

Not sure about the US, but in the UK:

2014 model has ABS, larger tank & comfier seat. (and they dropped the colour Yellow :( )

Just to confuse matters, they started selling it at the back end of 2013 !

So, you could get either model in 2013 (ie with or without abs etc..), also the non APRC was available then too so a possible choice of 3 models listed as a 2013...

Best bet is to ask the dealer to confirm the spec of what he is selling before you make a trip...

I bought a 2013 model and was told when I bought it that they were only model available was the aprc

I believe they dropped the non APRC models in the UK in 2012. As stated the 2014 model gets ABS as standard (it was an option before), a bigger tank by 2 litres and a bit more padding in the seat.

They dropped the best colour too for some reason.

Mentioned the non aprc model as some stealers still had stock in 2013... Maybe not an issue in the us ?

State 8, by chance?

I just purchased the 2013 model. I test rode the 2014 model and there is noticeable difference:

2014 ABS APRC v.2
-Throttle response is much smoother from 1-4th gear, not as aggressive or fun as the 2013.
-mapping and gear ratios are 'tamed' for commuting taking the fun out of it if you ask me!
-tank feels wider around your thighs
-Seat height is 20mm higher, which sux for shorter riders like me
-ABS brakes, even though Brembo Monoblocs, didn't have the same rider-input feel as the 2013. I personally hate ABS on bikes.

2013
-much more aggressive mapping = more fun
-brakes feel more 'real' to me without abs
-i much prefer the gear ratios of this model, a little taller, much smoother imo.
- lower seat height, tank feels smaller
- you will NEVER notice the bigger fuel capacity. This think drinks, we didn't buy it for fuel economy, so those of you who think your extra 10km a tank is worth the upgrade are nuts.

VERDICT
I much prefer the 2013 model and price tag. For those of you who are familiar with MV Agusta, this upgrade reminds me of the Brutale 1078 when it went to the 1090 and lost all its character.

If you want character, stick with the 2013. If you want predictable, pay extra for the 2014.

I didn't think about seat height. Was thinking of adding some padding to my 2013 T but I am on my tip toes as it is. Good point!

Didnt realise they had increased the seat height.... thats no good for me then...
