2011 riders4research event update - track day?

Ok, following on from last year's successful riders4research ride-out event to watch the BSB at Silverstone & the lack of interest shown for running something similar this year to watch the WSB at Silverstone, I've gone back to the drawing board & my original plan of running a track day in which all profits will go to Cancer Research UK.

The guys at Easy Track are behind me on this 100% & are willing to help out big time. Date, cost & venue TBC but from our recent talks a
Friday during July / August at the Snetterton 300 for £90-£100 is on the cards

Judging by the turn out to the recent Cadwell Park shindig, there are a few riders out their keen to do track days, we should have the weather on our side & being it's all for a good cause I'm sure peeps would be eager to put themselves out for it

From the comments made on the Cadwell Park thread, I know there are some track day virgins keen to pop their cherry but struggling to commit / cross that threshold. Track days suit all levels of rider in a safe environment. You can push yourself & your bike just that little bit more than on the road & I guarantee you'll be smiling like a Cheshire cat after lap 1. I'm *****, only done a couple but keep wanting more.

The guys at Easy Track are in contact with some of the big names in the superbike world & will be actively speaking to them with the intention of getting them to join / ride with us for the day!

I'm hoping we can make this event work & it would be good to have a few guys head up the day before to make a night of it. Remember, it's all for Charity, all about fun & meeting like minded people doing something we all enjoy so watch this space.

Cheers, Robbo

Up for that, been talking about doing snetterton so being able to do it and help a brilliant cause, its a no brainer!!

Cheers for the support lads :thumbup

Once I have the date, location, cost etc... I let you know. Idea is to find a centralish track, mid summer under £100, which rules some of the bigger ones out like Donny, Silverstone & Brands GP, but were on the case so watch this space!

If anyone uses any other forums, I'd appriciate you spreading the word once I've finalised details. I'd love to think i'd fill all spaces from the Ape forums only, but based on past experience it just won't happen, so this year I will be opening it up to others & promoting on various forums. I approached a lot of companies last year for support / raffle goodies that all wanted to help but saw the Aprilia only as a conflict of interest. At the end of the day I need a full day as all profits go to a great cause.

Hmm,the new layout of the Snet circuit looks interesting. The 'old' circuit was fun on my old Rotax single,....untill I blew its brains out coming out of the Bombhole.:bawling

I'm well up for this as long as I'm not in work Robbo ! Just the push I need to do my first track day.

Just booked up for the Bike Magazine 'Reclaim the Tracks' roadbikes only trackday at Snetterton 300 on July 18th :thumbup

Should be a blast!

(Sorry for the thread hijack)

Hey Robbo! Sounds good to me mate. As soon as u have some dates lets me know and I will book the time off. Be good to catch up again and as I have only done a Cadwell and Brands tracks, Snetterton will make a nice change.

Keep me posted!

Will do Troy. How was skiing? Judging by your new avatar looks like you've been geting some sneaky track days in?

You fancy the meet at Godstone on Thursday 14th April, thread on here somewhere :yes

Shame it can't be Silverstone it's on 10 mins from me. :-(
Track is TBC yet mate so don't rule anything out :thumbup

Problem is, wherever I chose it won't suit everyone, watch what happens when I announce the date, lol.

All the tracks bar Brands are 2 hours plus away from me & further for others, to make the event work people need to sacrifice a bit of a trek, hence the possible Thursday night piss up :drool After all, it's for a good cause!

Yeah you gotta travel a bit if ya wanna enjoy the day. sure it would be worth it tho. Just looked where Snetterton is, Its closer to Amsterdam than it is to my house :eek2 The new track layout looks good tho eh?

Cheers for the support so far guys, even though based on vague details.

This was taken at the recent get together at Cadwell. Need this event to be much bigger. I will have all details by next week :biggrin

Snetterton is a bit of a trek for me, but I'm well up for trying a trackday, so may well be up for it, especially if it ends up at a track nearer to me.

I'm up for that Robbo. The sooner you have a date the better, I can then book it off - it's holiday season and the UK public wants to go on holiday!!

OK, I have a bit more of an update regarding the 2011 riders4research event :biggrin

It will be held on Thursday 18th August at the all new Snetterton 300 circuit.

I am waiting for the guys at Easy Track to set up the booking page & to confirm the actual price. They have approached MSV to explain what this charity bash is for to see if they can obtain a discounted hire cost, it will be at best £99 & at worst £119 per rider for the day.

Long & short of it is we need as close to 90 riders in total to make any kind of profit to donate to Cancer Research UK. The day will be split into 2 or 3 groups dependant on level of experience, so plenty of track time for all. Anyone who has experienced an Easy Track event before will vouch for this along with how well the day is run.

I’d love to get a few first time track day virgins involved to pop your track day cherry in a very safe environment for a great cause. Those that say track days aren’t for them, probably haven’t done one & trust me when I say you don’t know what you’re missing, you will be smiling from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat after lap one. Right up to the other end of the scale. If your 100th track day on a race prepped machine, Aprilia or not, everyone’s welcome :thumbup

I plan to promote this on the Aprilia forums only at first, the booking page for the day will be exclusive to us & we will have a 5 week window to get involved . If space fills up, great, if not it will be promoted elsewhere by Easy Track & myself to make up the numbers needed. So come on guys, don’t let distance be our downfall! It doesn’t matter whether you are based in Scotland, Ireland, Wales or England, their is nothing stopping you booking a £19 a night travel lodge & making a few days of it, I will be.

Again, I have the backing & support from Griff at Aprilia Performance for this year’s event. He will be joining us for the day & as always will be pushing hard for potential attendees that use his services, bike related or not :lol

Once I have all details I will start a new thread with all information, just posted the confirmed date & venue on here for you to get in your diaries.
