So just returned home from a 6 month deployment. Didn't disconnect anything because the wife was supposed to be home and starting it while I was gone. Well, stuff happens and she ended up staying with her parents so the bike wasn't started for 6 months. Prior to leaving the bike was running flawlessly. No issues. Returned home late January and the battery was dead. I expected that, no worries. New battery and went to fire her up and she wouldn't turn over. Everything sounds normal. Fuel pump runs nothing on the dash as far as EFI or anything. So I changed the oil cause it was low. Put new spark plugs in, as the old ones were pretty out dated. Went to start her up thinking that should be it and still nothing. I've read some of the other posts that have had the same problem but a lot of them were older models that had chokes. I'm no mechanic (airplane mechanic but in a different sense), but i'm pretty sure I don't have a choke on mine. I could really use some help. The closest dealer is a few hundred miles away so fixing it is up to me for now.

So when you say wont turn over ?, do you mean press the starter and the starter doesnt try to turn the engine over. I would guess the immboliser has gone monkeys. Give Griff at Aprilia Performance a call he can probably talk you through resetting it.

Maybe starter solenoid is fried, does it click when you press the starter, have you tried bridging the terminals to see if it will turn over

Hi Zip! As Kiwi asks above - it would help if you described exactly what is (or is not) happening! Since the bike was running perfectly before, and you have replaced the battery so you now have a fully charged one, a likely culprit might be the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) which is moved by the 'stepper motor'. This valve can stick if left undisturbed for some time. If it cannot/doesn't move to its correct position for start-up, the engine will not start readily. You are correct when you assume there is no conventional choke in the old sense of the word. It is unlikely that either the starter solenoid or immobiliser have been affected by the six months non-use.

The AICV is accessible inside the airbox - lift the front of the tank (first disconnect the electrical plug just behind the pivot point - otherwise you risk stretching the wiring as the tank lifts) Unscrew the airbox top - the IACV is to the right of the two intake throats. It should move as you switch the ignition on (and off). Give it a careful blast of brake cleaner or similar.

As Kiwi suggests - speak with Griff at Home - Aprilia Performance - he's 117 miles from BTW.

Lastly, why did you post this in the wrong forum? ;-)

Thanks for the replies. So, to explain a little better. When starting the bike everything works as it should, minus the bike not starting. when I push the start button the engine will turn over and and The engine won't come to life. I'll check the AICV when I get home. I'll take a video and post it off what is doing. I don't think I'm explaining it the correct way.
