I just received my Delkevic slip on exhaust cans and adapters, my question is this I was told with an APE you have to have the dealer change the map once you install. Every other ,odor cycle I have owned didn't require a map change or pc3 unless it was a full exhaust system. And if this is the case should I ride it with the new cans before the map has been changed, will it cause any issues?
well mine has a arrow can and standard eprom map and runs perfect.
cheap cans tend to be more of a gamble on fit and forget approach as there not bike specific like the high end items.
if you feel its running lean then a map change new eprom will fix it .
flat spots cutting out surging are all signs of poor fueling so if that happens you know what to do.
check a plug after a few miles and if it looks ok and your happy with how it runs starts and rides at low speed high speed etc id leave it as is.
if your tracking the bike id have it mapped for peace of mind as its the best policy.

on gen 2 bikes you need a dealer with an axione 2000 machine to install map2 to help with the fuelling
the earlier bikes get away with a wire snip on the ecu
you can ride without map 2 but i cant promise it wont run too lean and hence cause some damage

Excellent, I was more concerned that I would cause damage if I installed, and ran a few or a hundred miles before I could get to the dealer to have the map changed.
Also since you can't change the map without the axone dealer computer, And if that's the case why would anyone put a power commander on an aprilia?

The map 2 gives it a little more fuel and is to help the bike respond better which it does. A Power commander 5 or the old 3 will sort out the fuel map even better. Due to emission laws and all that bull, the pc3 / 5 will give the bike a much better pull at the bottom and mid range. I had a TL1000R for 6 years and I am disappointed with the lack of pull from my RSV1000R 2006 model. My TL had a lot more power upto 8000rpm. A PC5 will apparently resolve that problem soon.
