hi
this is my first post as i am a newbe and any advice might save me a trip to the rocket centre at darwin.i bought a 2004 tuono monday and its a great bike but it has a small niggle when coasting up to traffic lights or just stopping in first or 2 gear just before the bike actuly stops it make a strange crunching noise ? to avoid this i can just snik it into nutral ,sounds like its coming from the left hand side, the clutch seems to work perfectly just makes this strange crunching noise at 1 mile an hour when you come to a stop in gear.

thanks

kevin

If you have the clutch out at 1 mph the engine will be wanting to stall, so I would guess some strange noises would be heard. Pull the clutch in well before that speed and see what its like then.

i have the clutch lever pulled in well before it starts making the crunching noises but the noise only starts just before i come to a halt.

How are the chain and sprockets?
Could it be the lack of background noise allows you to hear the chain running over the sprockets (but they would have to be really bad I would have thought)?

chain and sprockets fairly new,i have hand spun the back wheel and every thing spins nice and freely with no crunching.

Check chain tension. If a little slack it can slap, which will only be heard at lower speeds.

Then lift bike on stands and see if noise occurs when you spin front/back wheels and apply brakes.

Beyond that, I haven't a clue, other than a potential clutch problem!
NB: Even with clutch lever depressed you can get some clutch drag (just try pushing bike in first gear with clutch depressed), so could well be mild chain slap or normal chain/sprocket noise ( detectable at low background noise levels) due to normal clutch drag.

been out on the bike today to get a second opinion about this clutch from a good bike machanic and the speedo stayed on 0 then went up and down and all over the place its now staying on o ,could this be a cable or senser ? and are they expensive.

Will be your speedo sensor, mine went last year, small sensor which reads your speed from the rear brake disc. They're not cheap tho, roughly £85 for genuine aprilia part. Easy to fit yourself.
