had trouble recently with my charging, turns out im getting no charge into the battery whillst running....

brown connector on rectifyer looks fine...
had a look at the stator itself, looks a little dark but thinks its ok
brown connector on the stator side..... wherethe hell is it hiding??

from what ive read on how to guides and forums etc is just above the genny engine casing............ nope the wire/cable disapears into the engine somewhere!!! :dunno

so comon someone gia clue?!?!?!? :confused

well if you mean the big white plug with the yellow wires ?
its on the right side between the 2 cylinders about 50mm long and 30mm thick.
i have the 03 so hope the later model is the same which i think it is
check fusees too while your at it

hth

from what ive seen of pics its a brown 3 point connector, like on the rectifyer but will look between the cylinders anyway

yep fuses all good!

cheers

well finally found the brown connector attached to the stator ( hidden behind the coolant tank! ) and all connections look fine with no sign of burning or charring

but had a 2nd look at stator in better light

looks a little suspect!! Opinions?

measure the three windings at the brown plug with the engine running. From memory i think you should get about 75 volts ac between each winding. (measure each pair in turn)

If any are substantially lower than the others then the winding is shot. Change your oil too if it's gone. The windings cook the oil and dump loads of blackened crap into it when they overheat and fail. You will probably find the oil will smell of burning.

yep oil is definatly shot! it was just think drown sludge when emptied!

waiting for new genny cover gasket etc....... so can put back together then once ive got a multimeter i can test it all

this may be a long shot & clutching at straws............but costhe oil was so old & black, would this effect the workings of the stator?

no the oil simply helps keep the stater cool.

but good oil is better at all things oily :thumbup

That looks the same as mine..My brown connector looked ok, but it had split inside cooking the stator..Wise to do away with it, I got a second hand stator which must have been from a newer model as the second brown connector has been discontinued. I also bought a second hand reg/rec (£10) in case that had been damaged. Since then, I've done 6k miles without anymore problems.
