2002 RSVR Back sprocket

Hi seems my 2007 Tuono question was too hard!!

So on the 02 RSVR, OZ wheels, how do you get the back sprocket off and more importantly back on!!! The bike has nylock nuts that I have loosened slightly but cant get fully undone, or do back up, as the bolts just turn!!! The back of the bolts is recessed in behind the spokes and is flat and doesn't seem to have any way of holding the bolt?? Any help on this one?

as far as i know the sprocket carrier wasnt changed during the rsv production, on my 05 you just pull the sprocket away from the wheel (it will probably take a good bit of jiggling) at which point you can get at the giant allen key bolts on the back of the sprocket carrier, putting it back is pretty straightforward to, just check the rubbers that the bolts go into are in decent enough condition and plop the bugger back in (with a good bit of jiggling again no doubt)

TL;DR you need to pull the sprocket carrier itself away from the wheel before you can change sprockets

Depending on model, some bolts are secured with large, thin nuts at the rear, 19mm I think, rather than the allen heads.

wolf: What holds the sprocket carrier on? Just as a general description it seems you have the wheel, sprocket and an aluminium plate over the sprocket held on by nuts! Nuts that wont come undone as the bolts just turn with the nuts! So are you saying that you don't have to undo the nuts to pull the sprocket carrier away? I haven't pulled the wheel off again to see if this is the case!

PaulW: Are the nuts, in your scenario, usually recessed in the wheel? The opposite end/side of the bolts, to the sprocket, is recessed in the wheel about 20mm and the bolt head seems to be flat. Is there a cover, over each of the heads of the bolts, that needs to come off to see the nuts and or allen head?

Drop the wheel out fella, ease out the sprocket & carrier (just pushed into the cush drive rubbers in the wheel) & all will be revealed!

Of course what am I thinking, just like the Honda CT 110!! And every other bike I have owned!! Obviously I need to go to sleep before midnight a bit more often!!!! Thanks.

Usually they just fall apart, and hence the jiggling in Wolf's response!!!!
