Hi Guys (and girls)

This is my first post on here and its not really for me (as I own a suzuki yes I know :jack) it's my brother inlaws bike

Right here goes

Basicly he came of the bike which need some paint work so we removed the tank and panels etc had them sprayed and put it all back together.

We then turned her over and it just turns and turns (it did start briefly around 3 seconds) but then nothing just keeps turning over battery is full etc.

We have got a minute petrol leak from the quick release connector(part on order 3 weeks) on the left under the tank as you sit on the bike. He damaged it as he disconnected it.
Would that be a problem does a Mille have to have a vacuum airtight seal? (clutching at straws)
We are going to try to bump start the weekendas he lives on a bit of hill, great if it start long way back up pushing if it dont:)

Any ideas work on the button every time before we took the panels and the tank off.

regards

Flip

Can you hear the fuel pump priming ?
Tip Over sensor under the seat
Fuses Blown
Side Stand switch defective
Clutch Cut-Out switch defective

Its flooded , pull the plugs out , dry em off heat em up and put em back in

Only use the fast idle on full to start NEVER the throttle

or worst case

The "Sprag" is fooobarred...........does it make any horrible crunching noises when turning over ?

Yes turned on ignition and you hear the whining noise from what I presume is the fuel pumpfor a couple of seconds

It could well be the plugs or flooded .

tried to start her on monday night but would not fire tried again last night and again just turning over. It just seems as there is no spark although we did get it running last week for about 3 seconds.
We have checked the wires and all seem to be connected, but seeing as it fired up for those seconds I presume everything is ok

Would not leaving the bike over a couple of days dry it out or would the plugs still be soaked in petrol.

how would you suggest to warm the plugs radiator? oven? blow lamp on the end?

There is no noise from this "infamous" spragg thing everything sounds as it did before apart the obvious engine not running..

When we put the bike back together we did have to take the battery off would that make anything need resetting for the bike to fire

As you can tell I am at a loss

Thanks for you advice so far

Regards

Flip

Either heat the plugs in the oven or gently with a blow lamp.
Mine flooded the other day and took 24 hrs before it would restart..I coulndt be arsed pulling the plugs

Does the dash display anything ?

As far as I know everthing on the dash is normal (as I said it's not my bike) if I remember the rev counter goes to 6 then back to 0 (when I mentioned this he said it was ok just need resetting)

I think the temp comes up but it does say "Cold" I think it also says efi or something like that but obviousy will have to check.

I really dont think there is a lot wrong to be honest I am hoping the plugs cleaned/renewed and dried and warmed will do the trick otherwise it will be a costly call to "speedaway"(about 6 miles away) to come and fetch it

From what you're saying about the display, there are no clues there. Thew rev counter will rise to 6K (as you've had the battery off it resets to 6K). EFI is displayed momentarily then COLD should be displayed.
Kiwi's advise is what I'd go with. Warm the plugs, do not touch the throttle but only use the throttle advance lever. This is on the LH side of the bars and is often referred to as the choke. That's what it looks like. Pull it full on, back towards the rider, then, when running, usually at about 3K ease off to about 2K, then down further once it has run a little while.
I'm assuming it's an earlier model mille that does have the throttle advance lever, if it's a later model they don't have 'em.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Put some nice new plugs in for max. spark, i use these NGK DCPR9EIX Iridium Plugs
Ensure sparkplug caps are fitted down snug.

make sure you fitted the tip over switch the correct way up

little square box surrounded with rubbed and arrow marking which way to mount

If you damaged the quick connector on the fuel line you may not be getting any fuel (only ran 3 seconds and then out of fuel) it is designed to turn off fuel flow when disconnected and it may not have opened when you put it back together.
good luck

Blarsen has a very good point there. Whip out a plug (if it doesn't start next time). Not wet? Petrol not getting through.

10/10 to Cheesy.... popped in on my way home from work turned the little box thing the right way up started within a second of hitting the button (that was after I finally turned that bloody alarm off !!!!)

still need to replace the quick release connector though when they decide to send it from Italy if its anything like I had to wait for Suzuki to send a part for my bike the summer will have come and gone!!!

top forum guys many thanks
