Hi all,
I recently bought the above bike with only 29,000kms on it. It has been maintained very well and I have all receipts from new. I used to own a TL1000S, and have really enjoyed the move to the Ape. However, it has one noise from the motor that I'm a little concerned about.
As I accelerate with anything over light throttle openings there is a slight knocking noise from the motor between 3000-5000rpms. It only does it under load, so I can't diagnose it unless I'm riding it. Now, the bike doesn't knock on either hot or cold starts and oil pressure is good so I'd rule big-end bearings out as the source of trouble.
What it sounds like is similar to the noise I've heard from the old Yamaha XT550/600 series trail-bikes and that came from back-lash on the balance shaft.
I'm not getting any fault codes showing.
Has anyone else experienced noises like this? If so, any ideas what it could be? I'm well aware how difficult it is to diagnose noises without hearing them personally.
Many thanks for the help,
Harry
