Hi All,

I'm relatively new to this forum but not to Aprilia ownership

http://www.rsvzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13073

Anyway I wanted to ask your advise as never having owned an earlier RSV I don't know.

Would you buy an ealier RSV (possibly R) 1998 - 2000 and carry out some mods or buy a 2001 - 2003

The main use of the bike is going to be trackdays and the occassional run out on the roads but the Tuono will do the lions share of that.

TIA Dal

Hi Dal, personaly if I was looking for a change I would go for a 2003 it has the big valve heads, slightly more power and responds better to tuning:thumbup.

I'd have the earlier one as I think it looks better. I don't like the chicken wire side panels on the 01-03 model.

Saying that though if it's mainly for track use then get the later one dude.

Mate, those early plastic side panels are gross, give me chicken wire any time - plus I think you'll find that the 01 has bigger valves and more poke than the 99-00.

Cheers Guys,

From what age were the bigger valvers fitted? And di the 'R' model get them from the start? IE: Would a early RSVR be the same spec as a later Mille?

TIA

Dal, i wouldn't worry too much about what year the bike is if it's going to be used for track work. It would be the mechanical condition of the bike that would be of importance and whether you feel you want the Ohlins suspension of the R model

The differences are only small mechanically between the earlier 98 to 2000 bikes and the 2001 to 2003 bikes. Engine spec is the same for standard mille and R model irrespective of year. 2001 onwards bikes had the bigger valve heads and 2003 had a slightly closer ratio gearbox and the R had radial brakes
