anyone ran a 180 rear? have got a 190 211 dunlop but it's just about dead, have got a pair of power ones but the rear is a 180 so was just wondering if anyone's ran one and found much difference compared to a 190?

profile is only 5mm lower so am thinking there will be a negligible difference in handling, could always drop the forks a bit if it feels to slow, was planning on doing this anyway so might drop it a bit first and then see how it feels with a 180.

Loads of posts on before about this.

General agreement is that a 180 feels more flickable on the bends.

cheers all.

odd that turn in would be quicker as the sidewall height is lower so this should in theory, from my understanding, slow it down?

at least i can shove the powers ones on when i kill the rear off this week.

180 is the tyre width, thinner tyre = quicker turn in. Side wall is irrelevent

a 180/55 has a 5mm shorter sidewall than a 190/55 so will inn effect lower the rear, still can't see it giving a quicker turn in?

180 is less distance to reach to tyre end than 190, giving a different curve on the tyre. To be honest I used both on my Mk1 Tuono and unless your Valentino Rossi you hardly notice the difference anyways.

/55 is the sidewall size isn't it?

Bloke the standard rear tyre on the gen2 is a 190/50 so changing to a 180/55 gives a narrower and taller tyre and changes the profile of the tyre also. as with all good things there is always a downside and although you do get a noticeable difference on turn in you do loose some grip as the contact patch on the 180/55 is smaller but nothing major if using a good sticky tyre

the 55 is the profile/sidewall height expressed as a percentage of the width, ie 55% of 180mm etc...

(hope that didn't read as patronising)

sorry, typo saying 190/55. did calcs at 190/55 as well!!

so fingers crossed the extra 5mm height should give me a quicker turn in.
