I've had a look around the forum regarding changing the front to a 15T. Does it make that much difference and if so what would I gain over the original set up??

Any advice would be great.:cheers

you would gain the feeling of more bottom end torque,,,,far far better round town riding,,,,you do loose a bit of top end and fuel useage goes up a tiny bit,,,,but the trade off is wheelies to die for with no effort at all,,,,lol,,,
to be serious it makes a world of diff

Have just checked out the bits i got with the bike and counted the front sprocket thats in a bag and its a 15T so i have been fed false info, i was told the front sprocket had been changed so this looks not to be the case it must be on the 16T still so i am going to change this first thing tomorrow and see what like it is.

I take it its easy enough simply slacken the rear wheel to give chain some slack then cover off for sprocket and swap over? Anyone know what torque the sprocket should be on at? Also rear wheel torque?

Cheers

Hi mpg

Sprocket change out is dead simple, like you say you just slack of the rear spindle and the adjusters,it doesn`t take much just enough to slide the sprocket of the spline, torque for this is 50 Nm.
Off the top of my head the back wheel spindle is 110 Nm?

Hope you like wheelies.......enjoy!

Cheers for that rig1, i swapped it out this morning and what a difference it makes bike is bloody fast anyway but off the mark with this you need your weight over the front to keep her down eh?

Much nicer round town also so spot on.

If anyone is thinking about it then go for it makes a big difference, dont know why Aprilia dont fit them as standard.

Why would you do anything before you check or count the fitted front sprocket. Wire in ya fud. Go fanny about with your riding time, just use the bike and get it sorted when ever.
Aldo.

Just thought of a link between where you stay and your above post

Stay safe. Just Ride.

Aldo can i ask why you have felt the need to write up such a negative response? I have enjoyed posting so far on this forum but seeing your response puts an end to that so thanks!

Anyway let me try and make it clearer.

I bought the bike and was told by previous owner that the bike had been fitted with a 15T front sprocket and the old 16T was in the bag of bits i got with the bike. He had been told by his aprilia dealer where the bike was purchased that they had fitted the 15T.

So why would i question the guy??

Obviously they had been at it as the bike had the 16T still fitted! So when i was looking through box of bits i decided to count the teeth just for the craic on the spare sprocket just to see. This is when i found out that the spare was in fact the 15T and not the 16T as expected.

So bearing in mind i have never ridden a Tuono before, then how would i be able to tell the difference between one on a 15T or a 16T?

Why the hell would i have reason to doubt the word of a guy who had thought his dealer was being honest in saying they had fitted this 15T when they had done bugger all??

So does this make it any clearer behind the reason for not removing the cover and counting the teeth on the bikes sprocket?

Where is it that you are from Aldo? Let me guess from your response Glasgow??

Hi Vic. Good guess but wrong, only a couple miles out but still in the G post code. Anyway how are the sheep doing up your way, hope you,ve not got your wellies on to-night. Good grief those Bukie vapours are wafting from the city, it must be affecting my my three brain cells.

Hi Aldo,

The sheep are all good:thumbup, and the laugh is that i did have the old wellies on last night as it was a session in a field local gala day good crack like!

:cheers

May be a daft question ??? but does changing the sprocket not affect the speedo readings

the speedo sensor is a pick up by the rear brake calliper which picks up a magnetic bolt in the rear brake disk so changing gearing has no effect on the speedo reading

:thumbup

See your from IOM Weejock

Just come back from the TT, had a great week and are just booking for 2010 :yes:yes

this years TT was pretty crap,,,although its was ok,,,,,after this yrs TT and the locals kicking off next yr will be whole lot better

ultimate gearing for the genII
is either 15/42 or 15/43...

So I believe the Gen 1`s the same !, whats standard though? and whats the difference between these two size set ups? Gonna be goin for a new set of sprockets and chain and would like the best set up

Cheers
