went to the moto gp in germany a couple of weeks ago on my beloved shiny millie, for my luggage i used a oxford tail pack which just uses bunges to secure it to the rear seat, what a mistake that was!!
unfortunatly whilst doing 140+ up the autobahns the tail pack decided to slip round and jam my back wheel up! :bawlingwhich resulted in me testing out my new alpinestar leathers and brand new arai helmet on the german tarmac, the tarmac won!
i then got carted away to hospital after been knocked out, had to spend 3 days in hospital with broken ribs and concusion, ended up watching the gp from my hospital bed!!
i had aa europeon aa breakdown cover so i thought at least ide get my bike back, wrong!! the aa deemed my bike to be un economical to repair so refused to bring it back, i asked for pictures of the bike to be sent to me and the engineers report, the report said to repair it it would cost 10.000 euros!!!!!!!!!! as you know they didnt even cost that new! as im only 3rd party:doh, mistake, i could do with getting it back to see if i could salvage anything off it but when i saw the pics it wasnt too bad, its only slid on the right hand side and the exhaust, lower fairing and handlebar have taken most the damage and doesnt look too bad to repair.
so ive been constantly on the phone demanding i want my bike back as i then found out it was been advertised on a salvage website!! eventually they've agreed if i pay for it to come back, £660, they'll refund that after ive repaired it and they inspect it to say its road worthy, might as well of not taken any cover out:jack, sorry its such a long post but i needed to get it off my chest:rant

I know its a cliche but at least you are still in one piece (kind of) The bike can be sorted but it sounds like a bit of a ball ache. Sorry buddy. Best of luck to you.:thumbup

Sorry to be reading that Flash, that's a hard pill to swallow. As Black Sabbath said, probably doesn't seem like it at the minute, but the best news in all this is that you are ok sir :thumbup

What clause is the AA breakdown cover using to claim non repatriation of the bike? I take it you do mean as a seperate cover and it is not part of your insurance policy?

Seems a bit odd that for the Oxford tailpack to do a Ronnie Biggs. Don't recall my old one or the side panniers moving about much but I did use extra bungies just to make sure.

Well like has already been said after a high speed off no1 is the fact you're able to write on here and have a justifiable rant :rant

Just throwing ideas about here, but surely getting a car with a bike trailer and going and picking the bike up yourself would work out cheaper than £660?

I'd certainly look into doing that if it was my fault and then the AA can shove their inspection up their arse.

i had a friend do this with an oxford tail pack. not sure of model on a Gsxr.

turns out Oxford had recalled certain models but he never knew. Lucky for him it just locked the wheel and he just skidded for 100ft without falling off. Oxford paid for new tyre and complete new luggage set.

Dont worry, i know how lucky i am, its given me a big kick up the arse! when something like this happens you realise whats important and whats not!
i dont know what the problem with the tailpack was as i checked it without fail everytime we stopped, i went le-mans last year with it with no probs.
the breakdown cover was separate to my insurence, it was the all singing all dancing AA europeon cover which really wasnt worth the paper it was written on, my mates tried to ring them after i'de been taken to hospital to get my bike recovered and couldnt get through, the police ended up taking it away, on a plus note though, the biker travel insurence i had was fantastic, rang them in the morning and they had me on a plane home in the afternoon, also all my leathers, helmet etc are all covered

If you don't mind me asking but why only third party as with 6 bikes i shouldn't imagine money is an issue fully comp on mine is only £159

i dont mind you asking at all mate, quite simply i'm a ****!!:coocoo. the amount of hassle it would of saved if i was, they'de of just paid me out! it was only a few quid more, luckily i do learn by my mistakes:bigsmile

No probs mate i hope you get it all sorted when you're up and about again let us know there's a few of us down here in Northampton and you'd be more than welcome to join us for a little jolly

Ow painful physically and monetary..I know it's after the horse has bolted, but I was told the AA won't recover if accident damage..(I'm also with AA)

Hope you're back on your feet quickly..

Sounds like a right ball ache to me mate, hope you get it back soon... I'll be checking my insurance out in a bit, I can't remember what I paid for this year?

I have a Kreiga US-20 tail pack, this was good for a quick blast around the same speeds...on the autobhan mmm!!

Sharky I'd be interested to know who you insured through etc. if you don't mind though its too late for me this year. Just paid my first premium on the RSV after 5 years on a 900ss.:exclamation
Fair enoguh the power and value are a substantial hike but even after i haggled with Bennetts their best was a couple of quid less than £300. Came as a bit of shock the Ducati was £90. Have I ben ripped off???:puke
So its fully comp I've got full no claims, been riding for years, am (ahem) 40+, bikes in a locked garage overnight etc etc on paper a least look like a pretty steady type, live in low risk area. :confused
When I trawled the net best price I was offered was c. £270 (via Tesco) but stayed with Bennets to get discounted RAC cover - after first few weeks of prilla ownership am thinking that RAC recovery cover could be good value:eek:

And that's after the 10 years younger team had had ago..:devious

My insurance was £275 tpft and that's with no claims for 32 years..FC £550..
But I'm unlucky with my post code, I'm literally 100 yards away from a low risk area, but my code is in the high risk where all the dead heads live, but that's 3 miles away..
