HI all,

newbie here looking for help. My 06 rsv1000 has been running fine for the 4 months in my ownership. Shes done 32k miles but has never missed a beat.

Then on my way to work last week i had a misfire. Then it cleared, then it came back.

Took the bike out later on in the day, and the misfire had got quite bad and most of the times it would not clear itself. I then pulled up, went to restart and the battery was on its last legs. So i have checked the charging and and when running i was getting no extra power ( around 12.7v which it was showing with the ING switched off)

So i presume these two faults are connected as they seemed to happen in one day. I have read around for rectifier faults but no one mentions a misfire at the same time.

Can anyone shed any light on this please.

Thanks in advance, Cheers Andy

andy,

it sounds like the same issue I had. the stator is on its last legs.
don't rely on the dash telling the truth use a multimeter.

I will drop you my number if you want to give me a call im not a million miles away from you ;)

It probably is the stator but it's worth checking first, before ordering one.
It could still be the Regulator / rectifier at fault, it could give the same symptoms.

Hi all,
Thanks for the help guys. I have been away over the weekend so sorry for slow reply.
Thanks for the Help Scoob too, Top guy for contact details. I will see how i get on and give you a buzz if i get stuck if this is ok.
Just a quick one before i order a new stator. Is there any guide to checking this and the regulator before i spend my hard eared?

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy
You could try doing a search on here for the info but YouTube has some good "how to's" on the subject.
As long as you've got a multimeter, you should be able to work out which item is at fault.
You could do a resistance check on the stator, between phases and between each phase and earth, as well as an AC voltage check on the stator with the engine running.
For the reg/ rect a resistance /diode check with the reg/ rect disconnected is about all you can test.
Check your manual for the the expected AC voltages and resistance levels (or someone on here may know the expected values on the RSV)
Hope this helps and good luck.
Adz.

Hi Guys,

Quick update. Started to go through the guide and got slightly lost to be honest. Went to try and fire the bike and it now wont fire. Checked spark, Nothing. Waited a min, Checked it again and it was there. Checked again and it was gone again. So i have now just said sod it and bought a stator and RR as i have left it so long and i am meant to be out with friends on it this weekend coming.

1 thing i did notice is that the stator had already been changed as the wires had been soldered next to the plug.

Will update hopefully when all is good this week.

Thanks Andy
