Hi and firstly hello to everyone on the site..

I'm am look so info if possible on a problem that I'm having...

I have just bought a 2004 rsvr / Mille R and while out driving it I could feel a problem and first I though it was losing power but soon click on that it was coming from the rear brake, I stop at the side of the road only to find that the rear brake was completely seized tight and I could not even puts the bike forward, on looking at the rear brake and wheel I could see that the disc and calliper was red and very hot.... After sitting for 10 mins r so I noticed that the bike wheel had became unseized so I nursed her home.......

I then read on a form that the rsv brakes need bleed also so I changed the pads and bleed the brake....

Then yesterday I was heading up to the watch the first 2 races of the northwest 200 with my friend,,, only getting 15 mile up the road I noticed that there was the same feeling coming from the bike I pulled over the the side of the road only to see that the rear brake was on fire,,,, so waited for I while and got bike home..

Today I took rear calliper off only to find the pads and the calliper piston were complete disc integrated ....

Please help this is my first aprillia

This happened to me on an old kawasaki, motogp style glpwing brake disc and accompanying smoke.
Rear disc was anealed and caliper certainly needed a rebuild

I think you may have the rod adjusted too much.
A while ago I adjusted mine so that it worked great just rolling the bike when cold. 5 miles down the raid the bike locked up . Red disc and lots of smoke. I had to back the rod off quite a bit.
There is obviously a big difference in the braking when bike is warm. Hope this helps

Deffo on the rod as I found out when putting new pads and bleeding the brake . I got about 4 miles down the road and felt the bike slowing down on its own so had to pull over and slacken the rod . Btw , the rear brake is still working but time will tell .

hi and firstly thanks to everyone whos replyd to the thread..

funny that alot of you said about the rod.... i showed a guy who has a lot of ducati's, as i thought he might have had this kind of problem,,, being that the master cil in them is in around the engine too..... one of the first things he noticed and said was about the rod ????????

alot of people also have been saying about the brake fluid that i shud go for a dot4 racing as it works better and doesnt expend under high heat.... iv been looking trying to get my hands on a rear calliper service kit as the 2 pistons are completely monkeyed with holes in them ,, but finding it hard to source...

i think i just going to have to go down the root of changing rear calliper and maybe master cil as well,,,,,, does any one know of any other rear callipers that will fit straight onto the 04 rsv mille R ,, like ducati's etc........

i was going to upload a few pics of the aftermath onto this thread for anyone that might be interested in having a look but cant find out how any info on that too lol

We had the exact same seizure on an 04, replaced complete caliper and backed up the rod a bit and everything A OK now.

hi corsa

did you change master cil and also what fluid did you put in.....

cheers

afaik it makes no difference. By design brake fluid expansion with heat is not significant. If it was we'd all have locked on brakes as soon as they were actively used, regardless of the location of the m/c. The heat input into the system from the disc and pad is much higher than that of the engine. Any good quality and new (uncontaminated) fluid has the same heat expansion properties give or take a gnat's chuff. ;)

Changing fluid will not solve your problem (on it's own).

Rob :)
