04 RSVR Gen 2 Track Bike

Hi all,

Just gauging interest here, I've a 2004 RSVR that's Cat D, minor panel damage. 8700 miles, mechanically excellent, runs superbly. Really clean condition, no damage to frame/forks/wheels/swinging arm (unusually!) etc. All pretty standard apart from twin Leo Vinci Ti cans & an MPL clutch slave.
Thinking about fitting a set of race plastics & selling on as a track bike, would look for £2400ish.

Any interest?

Gonna try it there for a few days, if it doesn't sell I'll probably hang onto it until next year. Pretty cheap for what it is though....

Why didn't you mention it's Cat D status on the ebay ad mate?

Because I don't know whether it is. Was told Cat D by the chap I bought it off but the check I did doesn't show it so. As mentioned earlier every bit of metal on the bike is pretty much unblemished, only minor scuff damage to a few panels so I can understand why it wouldn't be categorised.

So you wanna buy it?

Congrats on selling it. And if you did a HPI check and it came back clear then the bike wasn't/isn't Cat D.

Mine is Cat C and shows up.

The bike is/was not showing on the Insurers register, which is where HPI get their info, but it had sufficient damage on it to warrant a Cat D notification. There's a huge difference between Cat C & D, cosmetic v. structural damage, and of course there are plenty of bikes out there that should be scrapped (Cat B) that are not registered as no insurance claim was made. Sold it to a chap who's fully aware of the situation, & like me is not particularly concerned about Cat D registration.

There's actually very little difference between Cat C and Cat D. Category C or D write-off is one that insurers consider unecomonical to repair but one that could, given enough time in the workshop, be repaired and returned to the road. Whereas Cat A or B vehicles should never be returned to the road.

The main difference in C and D as far as the insurers are concerned is value of the repairs required to make the vehicle roadworthy again.

Again, congratulations on selling it. And if it doesn't show on the register then it isn't a Cat D. I'm not saying that's right as the example you highlighted goes to show. But that's the law as it stands.
