Ok, just had call from garage. Bike ready for collection. Service, tyre fitting & MOT £200. I think thats fine, what you lot think?

Didn't need plugs or air filter though. The only bit I am worried about is that he said it was showing no oil level before service, now thats cos it would be cold, right?

Not a problem fella....I've just spoken to your garage.

I've told them they've undercharged you.

There is another bill in the post (£200)

No, no need to thank me. :)

Can't see oil level at all when cold, hot bang in the middle on mine. Nothing to worry about box of frogs :)

They won't have done the valve clearances for that kind of money the MOT is £35.
The oil level should be half way up the sight tube when hot, check it and lube the chain when you come back from a ride,
the oil seeps back through into the motor as it stands idle.
Good result though.

Can't wait for a decent ride now, lost count of the ones we did last year. Lots :)

Ash, valve clearances done last service, He has defo put to much oil in, he has it showing half tube at cold.

Oooooo that's way too much. That'll blow into your air box and get all oil in your filter. Which reminds me I need a new air filter as thats what happened to mine when the garage over filled it

Are they not SUPPOSED to be TRAINED mechanics.

Too much oil CAN blow seals and gaskets and I bet they will not recompense you.

ALWAYS check oil when warm/hot , ideally after a bit of a run/idle for 10 - 15 min.

Drain some out and returnit to the garage and bill them for time etc

You can just mention it to them in a friendly way next time you are there ??

This is normally the case, Suck some out before you go out for a run mate, or as others have said it will cause damage.
Mine was filled the same last yr, and I took out about 400 mls of oil!

Definitely check when hot, too much and it will wreck the air filter, if needs be, drain some.

I just find it a little daunting firing it up with nothing in the sight tube, then remembering that it was fine when it was put away.

Thanks chaps. He is a good mechanic and a nice guy, he will re do oil level tomorrow, I will call him first thing to tell him it has defo got to be half way when at normal running temp, what is that in degrees on temp gauge?
