THE STORY:
Lately I've been having a nasty fuel leak out the overflow hose whenever I come even close to filling up. I've had a couple of shops look at it, with "you're putting too much gas in" as the common response. The other day, though, things had taken a nasty turn, and I walked out into the garage to find THIS:
Gas fumes had escaped from my cap, and eaten away at the clearcoat :banghead
I found out recently that the legendary Amauri was now working 2(!) miles from my house, and I took the T over to him. I had a small laundry list of stuff to be looked at, with this fuel problem obviously the main item. I knew he'd be the right guy to sort the beast out, and once solved, I could pursue a warranty claim (bought my '05 brand new early last year...) with Aprilia for the paint issue. When I returned though, Amauri told me that 'someone' (one of the previous shops, trying to "fix it"?) had freaking removed and plugged up BOTH vacuum source hoses :mad , and that Aprilia would very likely wash their hands of the whole thing.
On the upside, Amauri did totally hook up my fuel system, and I can now fill the tank to the very top without any leaking... thanks, man!
SO WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?
1) Get the tank re-clearcoated... who? how much? do they have to repaint, then clearcoat?
2) Cover up the whole mess with http://www.geelongcarboncraft.com.au/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=10&category_id=1... and hope the CF matches my Factory stuff, plus, I'd need some kind of gas cap surround to cover up the rest of what the Geelong wouldn't. Suggestions as to what would work?
3) Say "Screw It", live with the F'ed up paint, and hope I can prove which one of the previous shops plugged up the hoses (insert 'blind senseless acts of violence' comment here :kicknuts )
4) Buy a nice, small, bitchen-looking tank bag, keep it on all the time, and only have to look at the paint when I remove it to refill the tank. Any suggestions to as to a small, super sporty non magnetic bag?
5) Extra bonus, free-for-all, readers-choice option?
Has anyone dealt with this situation? Any advice? Is there another or more appropriate forum to post this in?
Thanks gang!
