Not sure yet. I took a sample to work yesterday stuck on a credit card to check in the sun....looked good, was too small and flat to really see but I'll have a look at these in daylight tomorrow morning.
Up to about a foot they look pretty bang on. Any closer and you can tell..
 
It's vinyl.
Toying with the idea of making some moulds to experiment with Carbon Kevlar as well as normal carbon fibre but this will do in the mean time, not bad for £8 worth of material

I've tried the carbon effect vinyl on a few parts too,but it hasn't got the same "depth" as the real deal,so I bought all the gear to make fiberglass molds,just wainting on the carbon being delivered,then I'll crack on,bought the carbon from this mob,,,Kit No. 1B - The Starter Pack [19001] - £39.98 : Carbonology, Welcome to our online Carbon Shop!

alternatively just search 4d carbon gloss on eBay and it comes up. I used the air bubble free vinyl in black carbon. Very easy to work with..... took a couple of attempts to get the technique down but the left shroud only took me ten mins to do. Main thing is to make sure you work in an extra clean environment. Unravel the vinyl before removing the back paper sticking it on, lay it on the ground and blow over it with the hairdryer to flatten it out. goes on a lot easer then:thumbup

yea its defiantly not got that "depth" your talking about. That's a decent starter kit...hmmm...post up results when you've had a play with it. I've got quite a bit of fibre glass experience so would like to try carbon fibre and carbon Kevlar. eventually id like to make complete track fairings for my bike :biggrin

This seems to be happening alot at the mo. Lots of companies going out of buissness with websites staying active..pisses me off as it's happen to me twice this year :angry

Another good carbon supplier is carbonmods.co.uk. They have a load of nifty videos of how to use their products.

I saw this post when first listed and thought that the finished effect was good.
Now looking to do mine, but have a question for you.
Did you remove the "scoop" from the side panel to cover it? ( my plan) and if so how did you go about removing the little metal clips that hold them in place?
