Old school strap a bag on the unused pillion seat pod or get some luggage?
I wanna do an impromptu trip from Hull to Newquay, any decent luggage suggestions on a budget?

I usually tour with a bag just bungyed on to the back now with rubber underneath it. I have used this before and its much better. The frame is really strong and mounts really securely even to my RSVR body work. You don't have to buy the bag as well but the frame can come in lots of different sizes for many different options. I used to turn the frame round to mount things over the rear lights without damaging the lights or body work. I used to then just sit the bag on the pillion seat or seat cover and use the frame to strap everything down securely so all the weight is over the pillion seat. I also have a baglux tank cover and you can fit a low profile tank bag on there and you won't even notice its there. Good for putting all your valuables in, map on top and other useful bits and pieces. I used to like using tank bags but gone off them now and only use a low profile one. I have one that will take a laptop with a bit of space on top and its just about right. The ventura load carrying frame is a good piece of kit, so are the bags for that matter, but the frame will stop you damaging your bike as much. I prefer mounting the wrong way round though and put the load on the rear seat cover, but it is designed to keep everything off your bike and it works too. Pack rack and sports rack are good things to have for touring

like this. You can see where the pack rack has been turn around the other way and the bag is resting on the bike. Be sure to put lots of that body work protective rubber stuff underneath and it will be fine. Dead easy to remove too. When you are going out for a day trip just stick your sports rack on the frame to carry a few valuables and maybe waterproofs.

They work really well. If you get any of the Aero bags they zip together too. So you could have the one that is in the pic and then another, say smaller one on the back over the rear lights resting on the frame. The upright frame will be between the two bags. Or you could just have the big bag behind you as in the pic and have your lightweight tent, bike cover and sleeping bag on the frame over the lights. Thats how I have it. I've ridden the bike flat out like that. Just don't have too much weight hanging over the back end. Have it over the rear pillion seat or seat cover and the bike will be stable, no problems at all.

You don't have to buy the bags either but the frame is well worth having I think. You can then use your own bags and mix and match things bungyed on the back. The Aero bags are good as they are more rounded for less wind resistance. You don't need the storm bags either. Well I didn't bother with them I just wrapped everything in plastic bags as they are nice and light

I did but its well worth knowing what's necessary to tour properly and safely. Something I will need to know once I find out if I can really tour on this bike. My last bike was the VFR800 and although it was a comfy tourer it was properly boring.
I will do the bag strapped on thing for this trip and then see about getting the proper stuff for my next trip.

ha ha ha LMAO. No you are right about not many of them touring. It does take a few weeks until you get bike fit... Until then, you need to travel everywhere over 90mph so the wind lifts you off the bike :burnout

Thank You for the complement on the bike. That was nice of you. Its my pride and joy and I really like it. Its an 08 Factory, its been SORNed for 18months at one point and its still managed to reach 30,000miles. Pity that the gen2's weren't out for longer so all the teething problems got ironed out, but once you get there with a gen2 they are nice bikes. Scares the crap out of me every time I ride it. Makes me feel young and alive...

You will be alright with everything just strapped on the back. Just pile it on and bungy the lot down. Just get hold of lots of that rubber protection web stuff to put between your bags and paintwork and everything will be alright.

like this stuff. Lots of companies make it and its cheap as chips. Good for putting over your seat as well when fastening down on a ferry too.

Wow now that's how to get the best out of a bike!
I love mine to bits, I've had it 4 years and done a grand total of 5000 miles ha ha. Shocking. Mind you I had a clock reset after a battery problem so the clocks only read 600 miles.
My mate has a Busa and I have to say its the most pointless bike I've come across. 200mph in a straight line but rubbish in the bends, you won't catch me buying one of them.
