Hi All,

I'm going to view this Gen2 Tuono, just got a few questions:

it states:
Year: 2005 Registration: 12/12/2005
Price: £ 4,595.00
Mileage: 8835

Were Gen2's about that early? Would it be one of the very first in the UK and do you think there's anything particular to look out for as a result?

Am I right in thinking it should have had 1st service at 625mls (including valve check), 2nd service at 6250mls (no valve check), 3rd service is due at 12500mls (including valve check)

Is there anyway to tell if it's running map2 (it's on standard pipes)

What do you reckon to the price (dealer)

id check that...
im fairly positive the 2nd gen tuono`s ALL started on a 06 Plate.
im pretty sure the 05 and 55 plates where tuoldo`s with the single pipe ?

then again i may be talkin complete bollox i have had a few....again lol hiccup

Fookin ell Rusty thats a lot of questions. If in doubt walk away thiers loads out there. Get one your sure about and happy and confident to own.

It could be a Gen 2 - they appeared right at the very end of 05, I remember because I had only just bought my Gen 1.

If you want to be sure, just phone the guy before you set off & check - how many headlights etc.

First service on the Gen2 does not include a valve check, it's done at the 12k one. The bike should have had it done at it's 2nd annual service - my wife's T has only done similar mileage and it had it's valves done this summer at 2 years old.

There is no way to check the map without an Axone, which is a bit of dealer kit.

Price looks OK, but make sure they include a service, just haggle - it's January it should be cheap.

Parkers guide is that just a guide.
Aprilia RSV 1000 Tuono2005/55
Original Price £7,648
Independent Dealer £4,095
Private Good £3,620
Private Poor £2,520
Part Exchange £2,960

So if you're going down that road I think I would want a little bit of a sweetener.
I.e. 1. Next service thrown in
2. Tank pad, year's tax, tyres A1, serviced now, heated grips, tall screen.
Yes I know number 2 is a list, then....
3. 6 month warranty minimum.
Still think you might find a better deal elsewhere. So go haggle.
Or look here...........

price looks ok... but it's hardly a steal in a snowy Jan.

I'm lookin to pay close to £4k. I reckon that's decent given what I've seen them going for.

Would be nice to buy from a dealer as I'd rather part chop my current bike

I don't know the exact cost as we got both bikes picked up & serviced at the same time, plus tyres on mine etc. Total bill was over £750.

If you go for the one at the dealers get them to show you it's either been done or include it in the PDI on the bike.

Do you reckon it will have the rotax engine?

They all have Rotax engines.

It's an 08 so it will have the 139 bhp Evo variant - unless it was old stock, then it has the 136 bhp version - you won't feel the difference the extra power is right at the top of the rev range, and you don't really use that bit on the road.

I know it's the same design, but I thought piaggio took over making the engines from Rotax. I trust the Austrians more than the Italians when it comes to attention to detail!

I was told that as well, but I have since been assured that all the engines are still assembled by Rotax and shipped to Noale as complete units.

The issues seem to be that late engines have a closer tolerance on the main and big end bearings. Rotax have apparently changed the process they use to harden the crank journals (and have stopped machining a radius onto the oil passage through the crank). This allows them a closer limit on journal size, so they have gone for a tighter fitting main & big end bearing shell.

As a result if you work the engine hard in it's early life the big end (usually the rear one I am told) can fail.

The advice Windy & I have received, given I have a brand new bike snowed in my garage, is to extend the running in period by a 1000 miles or so before you really flog the arse out of the engine. Run in as per the book, get it serviced, but not to REALLY give it the berries for another k or so.

At 8+k miles the bikes you are looking at should have no issues in this department.

ive actually been to see and sat on this bike, to be honest it looks immaculate for its year and yes its a 2nd gen, all standard as i remember i only walked away because i want a factory. never started her up though so i can only comment on it cosmeticly. its from midland superbikes in market harborough

I got it for £4100 taking into account the extra on my part-ex. That's with 12 months warranty, 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, a service (inc valve checks), and a set of rear engine R&G's. I'm pretty happy with the deal.

The only extra's I've spotted are the front engine R&G's, alarm, optimate connectors, and a quick action throttle.

It's being delivered to me tomorrow, I can't wait! (albeit I won't be riding it in this weather)

Many thanks for all your advice gents, no doubt I be back in touch with noob questions
