Hi All

I'm the happy owner of a 2008 gen 2 tuono, had it a few months now and loving it, but in a bit of a Delmer as i have a few pals that are wanting to do some big euro trips averaging 3000mls a trip , over the next few years none of them have touring bikes but do however have very reliable jap bikes.

My concern is do i change my bike to a jap one (ie honda cbr 1100xx) and not have to worry about ever having a problem, or is the tuono just as reliable for high mls over the years ? and will i have the constant worry that at any point itll let me down with it being a Italian bike and the known problems it can have ?

Your thoughts welcome :thumbup

I did 1800 miles to the French /swiss border in june this year and can report no probs whatsoever.
just make sure your bike is prepped right etc and away you go .

luggage wise I use a small tank bag , oxford panniers and tail bag . loadsa room .

don't forget to take a can of tyre repair gunk just in case your mate gets a puncture . lol

I looked at a gen 1 that had done 121,000 km's (about 67,000 miles). Ran like clockwork, and almost as nice as my 19,000 km example.

My gen 1 has been a daily driver for the last two and a half years and has only let me down once when the clutch bearing let go.

Seems to me if you use it regularly, it's a lot more reliable

Living on a small island I only really used my gen2 for touring on.
Several trips around France
Twice to Italy
Twice to the TT
No trip was less than a thousand miles and never had a problem.
I invested in a Ventura luggage system and found it brilliant. (Think I've still got if you're interested)

hi thanks for the feed back, sound encouraging, ive just got some oxford soft panniers and a tail bag, for a bike i had before the ape so will use them .. will need to look into a better touring screen was thinking the Laminar lip http://www.laminarlip.com/newinfo.php

jack , I use oxford sports panniers on my gen 2 , and had to make up a pair of supports to keep the insides straight and supported other wize when you strap ,em on they would mould to the side of the tail / seat unit sides and severely limit the storage space .if I come across the pics I will post them .
I did think about knocking a few sets up once .

they are bent up pieces of rebar, cut and welded to clear the cans and wide part of tail section . these were a prototype I made , and work very well .
where abouts in the world are you ?? if in the uk I may consider lending them so you can make copys . I no longer have time t fook about making them , as heavily involved with another project with a deadline !!!

oh yea , mounting points are --- front is bolted behind forward pillion peg mount and--- rear is bolted to the bungee point just below rear indicators .

I use an ermax screen, not a touring screen but much better than original...

That said, even better than a screen is a big tank bag !

i use the Famsa one which splits into 3 different bags to use, also +1 on the Ventura - between the 2 more than enough space for a couple of weeks worth

I gave up worrying about break downs..... i now get free euro break down cover with my insurance :)

If ya live anywhere near Yorkshire your welcome to try / borrow it ...

just got a soft set of side bags and gona use a tail bag. see how i get on with them when i go. BTW here is a pic of the bike

Also any one now what models had the stator issues just looked at the bikes engine No (if thats the one we look at ) and unsure if it fits in the range
