Seriously considering v4

Afternoon guys (and gals),

I used to own an 03 Tuono from new which I loved, and since then sports bikes such as Blades, R1's etc. I'm now seriously tempted to buy a v4 Tuono as there is so much about it that I like e.g. Noise, balance, torque etc.

Anyway the only niggle I've got at the minute is I've heard that there might be some reliability issues and the valve clearance service is astronomical. Before taking that as red, I thought I'd ask the guys in the know e.g. You lot. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I came from a long line of Sportbikes to the V4, Gsxr 1k, R1 etc and the V4 Tuono is by far the best bike I have ever owned.

It's fekking hilarious, addictive and totally bonkers :lol

I have had some reliability problems with my 12 plate V4 APRC and now have 20k + miles on the clock and still love the crazy little Italian :thumbup

With no word of a lie I feel more confident, comfortable and faster through the twisties than I ever did on my R1 and that was a seriously well set up bike.

The chassis is amazing :thumbup pair that with a set of Metzeler M7rr's and you can scratch all day long, wet or dry.

I had my valve clearances checked at 13k and all were within spec.
 
Hi Maurice, you're probably too rich for me. I've seen a 2013 APRC with about that on the clock for a smudge under £8k. That's the top end of my budget I'm afraid.
 
Well I bought a 2013 APRC earlier this year and have re-designed the rider seat and only get 100 miles to a tank full of fuel. If I'd pushed for the 2014 model the tank is bigger and the seat is re-designed anyway..
Make sure you have, at least, a sit on both models before buying.

Thanks Derick, obviously id prefer a newer model but realistically that is price dependant. If I can get it somewhere near that price with the bigger tank et al then I'd certainly consider it.

My 2012 is well fettled with and I get 90 miles to the fuel light if I am behaving, but I couldn't care less. This bike is about "smiles to the gallon" and it gives me hundreds of them :thumbup

Rizla is correct with regards to the fuel and smiles to the gallon, however I was disappointed with seating of mine which was too slippery too hard and the angle too steep.
This is mine when I first bought it in March

Yes mate.

Got the Aprilia Gel seat.
 
yep as rizla says smiles to the gallon ,had sports bikes fazer 1000,s and this bike licks them comfortably ..9500 miles with no problems.... 2013 from new in the fastest yellow ..put rsv tail piece on and covered the seat with a suede seat cover 35 quid off flea bay cos ye well slippy in textile pants..nearly 3 yrs and still grinning at 53 yrs old ..loves it

If it was me I'd go for a APRC model anyway.
There is so much power with the bike and the way the power is delivered I need all the rider aids I can get.
I tried riding with the wheelie mode switched off once... I soon switched it back on again...

The 2013 will be a leftover 2011 as they only made the non APRC models for the first year.

APRC all the way.

I have never had a bike with all the electrickery on it before, but it is so good and non intrusive on the APE that I would highly recommend it :thumbup
 
I'm with the other guys. Aprc all the way. It's worth it just for the quickshifter !!
