Having profited from the advice and assistance given on this forum, I thought it was about time that I formally introduce myself.
After yearning for more nearly ten years for a Factory Aprilia Twin, I eventually bought my 2005 Gen #1 Tuono RSV1000R Factory some five months ago and have been busy since getting the bike back into good shape following the previous owner's painful altercation with a large Guinea Fowl.
During these past five months, I've done lots of tidying up, including fixing of a battered oil tank, restoration work of the front cockpit and other carbon fibre panels that had taken some (severe) punishment, purchase of a new Powerbronze Double Bubble screen (the OEM screen was badly damaged), and a number of other items, including nickel-zinc electroplating of the majority of the external nuts and bolts and a new GEL battery (to protect the Starter Sprag Clutch). This past weekend was the first opportunity my wife and I had to ride it on a breakfast run through the Natal midlands.
With only 36,000 kms on the clock, the engine appears to be in tiptop form. Over the next couple of months I plan to add a few more farkles to the bike, including Rizoma clutch and brake master cylinders and mirrors, all of which are on order from overseas. In the meantime, I've installed LED indicators + LED electronic flasher unit as well as including two diodes and adaptation of the wiring loom so that they work correctly.
Now that my Tuono is virtually finished and (at last) on the road, its time to get back to my long term project bike - a very tired early model ETV1000 Caponord. Lots of work there still to do, but that is for another forum :tillis
If there are any other Aprilia owners from the Province of KwaZulu-Natal on this forum, I would love to hear from you. Email me at [email protected]
